FBA doesn't run in fullscreen on Win 8
« on: November 06, 2016, 12:45:07 PM »
Greetings gentlemen. I have a problem with 0.2.97.39 version in fullscreen on Windows 8.1 64bit. The following error appears when you press Alt + ENTER:

FB Alpha Error
Problem setting '218551192x218551456x0bpp (0Hz)' display mode

I tried to find a solution in the search field forum but without success. The emulator works fine in windowed mode, but not in full screen. Any suggestion?

Probably you use a wrong fullscreen resolution (incompatible with your monitor and/or your video adapter)... you can set a compatible fullscreen resolution and color depth using the specific options in the "Video" menu.
Video > Fullscreen Resolution (Horizontal) >
Video > Fullscreen Resolution (Vertical) >
Video > Fullscreen bitdepth >

Thanks for answering and yes, I've tried several different resolutions screen. The problem happens only in Window 8. When was Windows 7 on the same hardware. everything worked well in full screen.

Intel Core-i3 4330
ASUS Z97
4GB RAM

I heard about problems in Direct Draw. I got an alternative DDRAW.dll and place it in the Final Burn folder but did not work.

I had a similar problem in Kega Fusion Genesis emulator, where to go full screen the framerate drops to 30fps. The alternative DDRAW.dll worked in Fusion but not in the Final Burn.

Try first selecting a different Blitter under the video options.  Think of a blitter as sort of a video plug-in, some works better on some systems than others.

best regards,

We are going to need a modern blitter at some point, otherwise the project may die or be left for the people who still use XP.

OP - you will be best served by one of the DX9 blitters.

Gentlemen, how can I say this ... I put an old LCD monitor with 1280x720 resolution and ... worked using Blitter DirectX9 Alt.

So I put back my Philips LED 191EL monitor with native resolution of 1366x768 and configured in Final Burn 1820x720 with Blitter DirectX9 Alt and it worked well. But the "worst" is now. I set again 1366x768 and also worked, all resolutions screen is work now ... no comments about it.

Thank you very much dink for help me but I, in a strange way, solving my problem.

I can hypothesize an issue with the display vertical refresh rate (maybe, when you replaced the monitor, the "refresh rate" parameters were reset)... in any case, the important thing is that you solved the problem ! ;)

Greetings gentlemen. Intrigued by the "problem", I tested on a few more PCs with Windows 8.1 32/64bit. In some PCs there was no problem but in other yes. There were 5 PCs:

1: Intel Pentium 4 HT / 2GB RAM / GeForce 9800GT
2: Intel Core i3-3210 / 4GB RAM / Intel HD Graphics
3: AMD A6 6400K / 4GB RAM / Radeon 8470D
4: AMD FX-4100 / 4GB RAM / Radeon HD 6670
5: AMD FX-6300 / 8GB RAM / Radeon R7 360

Only on PC 5 I could not solve the problem in any way.

Well ... thank you all (Gab75, dink, Treble Winner) for the time they gave to help me, thank you very much.
