Title: CPS-3 WIP by Andreas Naive
Post by: CaptainCPS on May 07, 2007, 01:31:30 AM
For those interested in news about CPS-3 , well, you can see them here as the days pass ^^...

Andreas Naive is working and documenting his progress with the CPS-3 in spanish right here in his blog:

http://andreasnaive.blogspot.com/

I have some stuff to affirm that CPS-3 emulation is coming soon, ...he is working with algorithm but, he has'nt mentioned if there is any other progress in 'other' way, so if you remember the time when we had to wait for Razoola to release a CPS-2 XOR, now we dont any more...what I mean is that there are some updated pictures in system16.com -> http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=799 ...

I've visited that page some time back and those PNG Title Screens were not there... and I don't think a photograph can be edited to be so 'top quality emulation-like', ...other stuff,  are the recently preliminary CPU / BIOS implemented in the MAME core that are not 100%  related to CPS-3 but architecture is near...

Maybe MAME Team + Andreas Naive have some covered progress with CPS-3, and they are looking the way to support emulation like CPS-2..without the need of XORs, later I will try to get some info, something like an email interview to unveil the truth about what's going on with CPS-3, Andreas Naive write Spanish so I think we will communicate pretty well ^^, maybe I can learn some emulation stuff with him  :p .

I did some checking in HEX of the CPS-3 pictures at system16.com, trying to find any mark of the application used to save the Snap, and the interesting thing is that there is no header or end data with information about the app that was used to save them, 'BUT' comparing diferent PNG snapshots I saw a similarity in the top of the pics in system16.com and the snaps taken with MAME , ... of course if this stuff is  secret they may want to remove any info in the published PNGs.

All of that I've said, are my way of thinking about CPS-3 WIPs or theories , but it is not to be taken more than a 'point of view'

Afaik, they were captured from the actual hardware using a vga device.
Also, I haven't figured out that issue we were working on yet, so please don't release it yet. ;)

Are those games in chd or roms?

If those in roms then what are those chds? RAM and Flash ROM?

I don't understand how they dump those games.

It's roms and a CD-Image compressed as the CHD.

oh, btw, he said there that, he have some personal stuff to do and he will not be reaching any PC for 2 weeks, he's gonna make a trip or something, but when he returns he will keep working on CPS-3

Some people are truly amazing; hats off. Let's see how much time it will take for the emulation of CPS3 games to develop now.

With Haze, ElSemi, and Dox working on it, it shouldn't take long.

Hi all ^^, I have been out for a while (I'm really sorry but right now most of my personal life will be based on working, maybe until some upcoming months, need to make more money to pay a little student loan)...

Anyway, if some of you havent noticed in David Haywood's homepage there has been some nice WIP these days , now text layers are looking good in the last CPS3 WIP, there still work to do with sprite layers but I think they gonna bring this stuff working pretty soon

I hope the CPS3 core is not to complicated to port from MAME to other emus, because I would really love to see CPS3 + FBA ^^

btw, if you read the previous WIP in Haze's page sound is supported preliminary so everything is looking good for CPS3 emulation by now

here is the link to David Haywood's homepage:

Take care all! SeeYaa!

Im setting up an environment to compile the latest MAME 116u2 + the latest Haze code with CPS3 Sprite Zoom implemented, if I succeed compiling it I will post the binary here so you guys can try it too ^^

Btw, its not like I will be working with MAME now, its just that this CPS3 dev is pretty cool and exciting

Yeah, and MAME32 was updated with it too  :p, man and I was doing all that compilation stuff lol , well at least I have the environment again to build MAME, that btw is not doing the win32GUI build like its supposed only the normal binary that is run in console mode. Right now for me thats enough since I did a batch file to run the games more easy

And I think that in the final release they should disable the requirement of CHD (had to get them at last moment -__-), I think its not really needed because ElSemi emu run the games without them, but well I dont know what's the most accurate or correct method .
