Streetfighter Alpha 3 on FBA 029742
« on: January 02, 2018, 01:45:37 PM »
Hi there,

i am using FBA for a lot of playing time now.

I have sometimes problems with stuttering and slowdowns. Sometimes the games slow down to total freeze.
The sound is extremly laggy. When i kill fullscreen and go back to it the problem is gone.
It occur on different games. AVP, Streetfighter, Samurai Shodown 2 a.s.o. It is total random. Sometimes more
sometimes less.

What have i done till now.

- disable global and ingame V SYNC
- reduce Sound smapling from 44,khz to 22 khz
- set computer performance to full power

My System

16 GB RAM
AVGA 5000 Performance Enhanced HD5450 1Gb Version from Ultimarc
500 GB SSD for OS and Gaming
CPU I5 7600 4x 3.8 ghz

OS = Win 7 64 bit

I really wanna solve this problem cause FBA is my favourite EMU

Kind regards

I don't really think this is related to hardware performance.

As a lover of Samurai Shodown series, I was used to play these games with an 8 years old machine.
Even without a video card they ran good (even with my older 15-years old machine).

Are you using x64 version of FBA? ...if yes, then, try the "standard" x32 version.

While someone else arrives here with some other suggestions, if you want, make a copy of your ".ini" settings, then delete the original one, run FBA and try to check video blitter settings.
First try to play with default ones and then Enhanced ones.

I remember, somewhere here, a friend posted a guide to recommended settings to use.
Try to search them, I'm pretty sure they are still around here... those settings are still valid and solid. ;)

Hello there,

thanx 4 your fast reply.

Well i use the current FBA Version. Fba_029742.7z NOT the 64bit Version.
I played this morning for a couple o?hours. Without any stuttering sh....yeah
I reduced sound sampling from 44khz back to 22khz. Set PC to high performance.

As graphic blitter is use ...

Blitter --> Enhanced Direct 3D  7
Blitter Option        --> Enable Pre-Scale
                                  Pre-Scale using SoftFX
Soft XF algorithm --> 2xSal

Dont use any other graphic settings till now.
CPU enhancement is on 100 %
No forced 16 Bit emulation
No vertical Sync
No tripple bufferung
No 60 Hz refresh

So one very sad thing.

When i play Streetfighter Alpha 2 and 3 ...
The Fireballs of Ryu, Ken, Gouki very often disappear and flicker....thats very weird.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this ?
SF Alpha 1 and all SF III and older SF are running fine...depending on the Fireball thing.

Very kind regards

Your CPU should be able to run 10 of those games simultaneously, without trying much. Probably 20. Your problems most likely have to do with the blitter and/or the video driver. Try without 2xsai and/or with another blitter,

On SF III i do not have any problems.
Hmmm i'm wondering if it couldn't be somehow related to the issue we experienced on lr-fbalpha with the z80 cpu then, since all the games you mentioned use this cpu.

Re: ryu fireballs in sfa2 and sfa3:
Is it something that happens all the time, or once in a while?
I tried sfa2 and a3 on a default .42 setup except with the enhanced blitter. with 2xsai on and off, and threw about 5 fireballs each, and they went across the screen fine without flicker or disapearing.  I also tried (quickly) with the latest dev version, and can't reproduce it :(

To help better find the problem:
Could you record inputs, with "record from power on" checked and play the game, then post the input recording here?  Also tell which frames the fireball disapear happens. (there will be a frame counter on the bottom w/ehnahced blitter) also attach your config\fba*.ini file :)

bye for now,

Also check that game->adjust cpu speed is at 100% (normal speed)

Hi there,

short report !

Didnt record gameplay but i desabled all FX and it was much better.
Than i increased CPU Speed to max 200% and no Fireball disappeared.
No more stuttering also. I gues the biggest influence on the stuttering
is to have a high audio sampling 44 or 48 kHz. I run it now on 22 kHz
without any trouble and it still sound great.

Kind regards

I'm not sure if it's related, but it seems some linux x86_32 users of lr-fbalpha have a similar issue. I've been thinking for some time that it's related to something in the audio system of the OS (it seems to affect only a few distro), so perhaps an issue with your audio drivers ?

Fulg0re, to help me figure out what the problem might be, would you please set fba at 100% cpu and put all settings so the fireball disapears in sf alpha 2, then close fba and post your fba*.ini here as an attachment?  the ini is in your fba folder\config

thanks,

Like I said earlier, your computer should be able to run the game 20 times simultaneously, with time to spare.

Something is wrong. Here are a few things to try:
  • First, as Dink said, set the game's cpu back to 100%
  • There are 2 plugins for sound, select them through the menu at audio > select plugin, and try both
  • Select the dx9 blitter, use the point filter, run the game and while it's running go to the task manager (right-click the task bar) and check how much cpu time fba uses
  • While you're checking the task manager, also make sure there's no other program using a lot of cpu time.
