Samples list
« on: September 06, 2017, 04:38:22 PM »
hi all,

Is there any way to make FBA list all the Samples it needs?
Or can I find this info in the documentation or anywhere else?
I have not been able to locate this info.

I have several samples in my Samples folder, such as cheekyms, congo and others, but I dont know where to check if I have a complete set or not.

I also have a tr606drumkit.zip file, which I do not know if it is needed or not, and to which game it belongs.

Any help about this topic would be very appreciated.

Excellent list, gamez fan :)

I just wanted to point out that the donpachi.zip sampleset (~200meg) adds a CD-Quality soundtrack
to the game DonPachi.  One can switch between the CD Quality samples and original game samples
in the DIPs.  A must-have for fans of DonPachi :)

best regards,
- dink

Thank you very much, gamez fan and dink!

However, I feel your list is still not complete.
For example, you dont mention ghox

That is the reason I wonder if FBA can generate a dat with all the files that need samples, or if that info is in the documentation (I could not find it) or if it can be found in some web page. For sure the devs know the exact and complete list!

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this...

I'm not sure it is still needed, ghox and other toaplan games got their sound chip dumped properly before .40 release . But i would be interested to know what's the exact status of those in fba since the TOAPLAN_SOUND_SAMPLES_HACK define is still present in codebase.

Ghox was dumped after the last FBA release. The dump is supported by the current (unreleased) FBA, and the TOAPLAN_SOUND_SAMPLES_HACK has been removed entirely.

Hi Razek,

See attached file for samples dat ;p

Thanks JacKc, this is exactly what I was looking for!!

Now I know that the current, complete set of samples need exactly those 16 files.

Is it possible to generate the dat file that you uploaded somehow?

I cant see how to do it in FBA, and of course I would not like to ask the same question at every new FBA release...

So you have not used FBA to generate the dat file...

You had a folder with ALL the required Samples, and you have used dir2dat option in CLRMame Pro to make a list of what you have in the folder. Thank you very much for that, it was useful anyway :)

But in the next release of FBA, FBA might use more, or less, Samples, and again I will not know which ones.
And I can not use the dir2dat option in CLRMame to generate a complete dat file (as you have done) unless I have FIRST a complete set of samples in the folder... and I will not know if I have it or not.

So, if the file can not be generated by FBA itself, and if this info does not appear in the documentation, seems that the only way to know which Samples are needed is asking it in this forum every new release of FBA ?

I'm not sure I take your meaning... in any case...
the FBA isn't able to generate a separate dat file for the samples, but the dat file (created for the arcade games) contains also the samples infos... so, using the CLRMame Pro to check it, you can know what samples are needed... obviously in the "settings" menu (CLRMame Pro) you have to specify the ROM-path and the Sample-path.

Hi Gab75,

Thank you for your kind answer! Sorry if I dont explain myself properly...

What I was looking for was the way to know if I have a full collection of samples or not, and being able to check it at every release of FBA without needing to ask in the forum time and after time.

Thanks to your help and all other guys in this thread, I at last know how to do it... Sorry for my incompetence ... But you have given to me all the pieces of the puzzle I was unable to solve:

1) the FBA isn't able to generate a separate dat file for the samples,

2) but the dat file (created for the arcade games) contains also the samples infos...

3) so, using the CLRMame Pro to check it, you can know what samples are needed...

4)obviously in the "settings" menu (CLRMame Pro) you have to specify the ROM-path and the Sample-path.

I have tried it and works nicely!!

Thank you very much!!
