Very cool read about the preservation of Sega of Japan's Megadrive sound drivers & documentation for the ym2612 chip.

Out of curiosity... the maximum audio-hardware polyphony of Megadrive should be 9 channels (6 FM channels, YM2612, and 3 PSG channels, SN76496)
The PSG has 3 tones generators and 1 noise generator, but this latter haven't a dedicated channel, so it must use a tone generator channel as output.
Am I right?  :S

Gab75, I'm about mostly sure that the sn76489 has a dedicated noise channel.   :)

Gab75, I'm about mostly sure that the sn76489 has a dedicated noise channel.   :)

So a total of 10 channels. I thought the SN76489 was a "clone" of AY-3-8910 (the sound chip used in the first generation of MSX and in many arcade games of early 80s), instead it was a similar chip, but not a "clone".
Thanks for clarification! :)
