CPS3 questions.
« on: January 27, 2010, 02:53:18 AM »
Ok, so recently i found out that CPS-3 was emulatable and went out to find something that could run it with netplay, since me and some friends are big fighter fans. And naturaly, i come across Final Burn Alpha.

Now to my point.

I have been searching the internet far and wide, abusing google like a bastard child and have managed to find virtually no support or guides to running CPS-3 games on Final Burn Alpha. I have also tried various roms from various sites, and come up with nothing. The only sucess i have had was CPS-3 Emulator. But the goal here is Netplay.

So my main question is, what does a guy need to do to run CPS-3 games on Final Burn Alpha?

I'm not exactly too savy with MAME, as it can be a little overwhelming and complicated at times. So FBA is really my best option here.

I have used it before with my CPS-2 games and i gota say its my new replacement for Kawaks. But CPS-3 emulation is my goal here.

So guys, mind breaking this mystery for me? If so that would be a huge help. Thanks a bunch! ^_^

First, you'll need the roms (specifically the ones listed as "No CD" as FBA doesn't support the CD versions).
Second, you'll need kailleraclient.dll in the same directory as fba.exe

You may want to try different versions:
http://www.kaillera.com/
http://kaillera.movsq.net/

Third, you'll need to either host a server or use someone else's.
You can find details about kaillera here:

Well Kaillera isnt a problem. I have already used it with FBA do do some damage on Vampire Savior and Street Fighter Alpha 3 fighter with a few friends.

But how do i tell the difference between "No CD" Roms and regular ones? Also, is there more then one part to these roms, or are they single files?

It says "NO CD" in the title of the game shown in the list. lol

Eg. Street Fighter III 2nd Impact: Giant Attack (Asia 970930, NO CD)

And yeah, you may need the parent set for the rom.
So you'll need sfiii2.zip and sfiii2n.zip for example.

FB Alpha doesn't emulate the CHD romsets or to be more specific the CPS3 parent romsets, but you can fully play every CPS3 game by using the alternate "No CD" romsets.

Take a look at the snaps I attached so you can have a better look of all the CPS3 drivers, I took for example SFIII3N and used the "View Game Information" option to get detailed romset information. You can do the same even if you dont have the romset to verify if you need a specific file.

In one of the snaps you can see the Parent romsets with a red icon, those are the CHD sets, the other ones are the "No CD" ones

Hope this helps

Haha, happens to the best of us.

But thanks for the help guys!

Both your answers gave me the insight i needed! (The pictures helped too. Pictures are awesome like that.)

I managed to track down some No CD roms, and managed to get Street Fighter III 3rd Strike up and running! (now i can drool over Elena's legs again!) Now all that's left is Red Earth/Warzard and Jo-jo's bizarre Adventure.

Hopefully this'll help others out who are new to CPS-3 Emulation on FBA. ^_^
