Metapad as a Notepad dropin replacement
but Textpad for src, html etc

For now plain old notepad .

That's what I would use if it could tell me line/char numbers and have more levels of undo.

Oops, only saw this thread now.
Well, I'm currently using Crimson Editor (http://www.crimsoneditor.com), which I believe to be one of the most uselful editors around -- simple and light, yet powerful.
-
I'm using Notepad2 or Professional Notepad. Both free, light and fast.
-
I use UltraEdit-32 11.00a more frequently than VC Studio.

I dont think NOTEPAD is a good way to use because the file that looks like a windows logo were open with notepad..then somehow the file turned into NOTEPAD LOGO, why ?! Thats why I hate what it did to my file's logo so I refused to use it. What is the best program that wont turn what looks like a windows logo into something else's logo ?
-
LOL, when you associate a extension (p.e. .asd) to a software (p.e. Photoshop) Windows always try to open the file with the soft... that's how it works...
Go to Tools > Folder Options > View File Types, then search the extension and click on [Restore] or something. I'm just guessing, I have a spanish Windows.
I'm glad that changed to Notepad2, it's really easier to read.

I am afraid to use notepad on my mame which I compiled called ui.mak and it would turn into notepad logo. I dont want that. Is there a program that will not change whatever logo ?
-
It's changing because when you ask Windows to open a .mak file and it presents you with a list of programs to open the file with, when you select Notepad, you have the "use this program to open this file every time" box checked which permanently asks Windows to associate .mak files with Notepad. If you opened Notepad first, and clicked File->Open and selected the .mak file, it would not associate to notepad files. You can also add Notepad.exe to your "Send To" menu, and then right click on the file and send it to Notepad, which would also avoid associating the file.
