Title: FB Alpha Enhanced R1 to R14 [v0.2.96.72]
Post by: CaptainCPS on December 12, 2007, 03:15:12 PM
FB Alpha Enhanced R1 [v0.2.96.72]

This is a new clean version of FBA Extras. This one is being tested carefully so you can enjoy a bug-free FB Alpha UI + Extras that are gonna be added in every release.

Primary build (not released here, just source) is being compiled in a Windows Vista Ultimate environment and using MINGW v3.1.0, the purpose of this is to test FBA in the latest Windows OS and try to fix bugs found when running on it. Then we can have a 'Windows Vista Capable' logo in the FBA homepage lol  :p.

Note!: First releases will have most important fixes not available in the latest official release of FB Alpha so if Treblewinner or company want to add them, they will be easy to find and implement =).

R1 [December 12, 2007]:

src/burner/win32/roms.cpp

src/burner/win32/sel.cpp

src/burner/win32/burner_win32.h

src/burner/win32/scrn.cpp

src/burner/imagebutton.h & .cpp

src/burn/neogeo/

That's it for now ^^, later I will be adding some needed updates to the Game Selection dialog and some other fixes.

You can grab the files right here:

fba_src_029672_enhanced_R1.7z (http://jezeronline.com/neosource/fba/fba_src_029672_enhanced_R1.7z) [~140KB]

If you have any issues compiling just let me know =)

SeeYaa!

PS: The VStudio Toolkit version will come later, right now I'm using MINGW, but I will get the environment files soon.

Very thanks for your works!!!

Here you can download my MINGW setup (v3.1.0):

http-//fightercore.freepgs.com/files/MINGW.7z [~11MB] (check edit notes)

and my current batch file to compile my build is this (you should change some paths):

Quote
@echo off
set MinGW = E:\MINGW
set GCC_EXEC_PREFIX = E:\MINGW
@path=E:\MINGW\bin;E:\MINGW\lib\gcc-lib\mingw32\3.3.1;%path%

@path=E:\MINGW\perl\bin\MSWin32-x86;%path%
@prompt=mingw$s$p$g
@mingw32-make
@echo _
@echo FBA Compilation using MinGW v3.1.0 Done.
@echo (Using Windows Vista Ultimate Environment)

If you still have issues compiling just tell me  ;p

First of all, ThanX for your comments ^^

And about IPSv3.x service, I will have it in mind for R6, but I'm not sure (this is Christmas season so maybe you'll see that in the next release lol)

My blog will be updated when this Enhanced version surpasses the one located there, for now that old version is better in some ways than this one.(but eventually will get updated some time in the future)

I finally Downloaded / Configured my Visual Studio 9 (Visual C++ 2008 Express Toolkit), MS Platform SDK 2003 and the DirectX9 SDK (oct 2004) environment and modified the 'makefile.vc' (will be included in next release, R6)

I attached a picture of my results, with the next release I will share with everyone the updated links (to download the environment files) so you can compile it without problems too

btw, the fullscreen switch problem in W.Vista, the one that was making the black area flash, now its gone with this VC build :p

FB Alpha Enhanced R6 is coming with the last drivers Treblewinner was working on, Sega System 1

Quote from: http://www.barryharris.me.uk
I have decided to release my WIP System 1 driver. I'm not going to find the time to work on it so I'm hoping that by releasing it somebody else will.

The driver works well and the games that are supported play with no problems. The only things that really need adding are sound support and support for the encrypted games.

There are some classics on this system, so I hope somebody advances the driver. Teddy Boy in FBA would be cool.

And these are the drivers (Note: Encrypted sets doesn't work)

Flicky (128k Version, System 2, 315-5051)
Flicky (128k Version, System 2, not encrypted)
My Hero (US, not encrypted)
Regulus (315-5033, New Ver.)
Regulus (not encrypted)
Sega Ninja (315-5102)
Sega Ninja (not encrypted)
Ninja Princess (64k Ver. not encrypted)
Star Jacker (Sega)
Star Jacker (Stern)
Up'n Down (315-5030)
Up'n Down (not encrypted)
Wonder Boy (set 1, 315-5177)
Wonder Boy (set 2, not encrypted)
Wonder Boy (not encrypted)
Wonder Boy Deluxe

Other Stuff comig for FB alpha Enhaced R6 are these updates from Treblewinner's site

* Shadow Force driver with Japanese set working correctly.

* Sega driver updates:
- New driver for Passing Shot on System 16A hardware
- Tidied sets in the DD Crew driver

All updates where released on Sept 22, and the Capcom update too but, the IQ_132 cleanup is more updated so no need to add it.

SeeYaa!

Aborted?

Captain, how about your project of FBA Extra?
Aborted?

Its not aborted, what really happened was that I didn't have the time to work on it (I was working pretty much in my real life) and I decided to do a clean remake of it (FB Alpha Enhanced), because I don't remember to well what bugs I left inside the FBA Extras source code (there was too much stuff modified in that last releases), that was the reason why I released a beta of my last build without source.

I just want to make sure my FB Alpha modifications are working fine, and not giving any kind of problem.

So I hope I keep getting the support from you guys

I will keep working on my modifications as far as I have time to do so, but it doesn't matter if I don't have time because I will do my best to return again to work on FBA (like I have done always).

SeeYaa!

PS: One of my dreams is to make my own driver contributions to FBA someday, so I will keep trying to get more knowledge to achieve that at some point in the future , btw....FBA Rules! lol.

Oh I see, I didn't know that , they must have updated the 'patch.cpp' with the latest MAME PLUS! 'patch.c', I was taking a look at the MAME PLUS! source but it's a bit complicated to convert to FBA, it will take me some time to study the variations and stuff, and I cannot promise anything soon because I'm not working on FBA Enhanced all days like I did with FB Alpha Extras.

btw, I think FB Alpha Shuffle source is private so I'm not sure if they will give me the IPSV3.x code.

    * Added Epos drivers released by IQ_132 (d_epos.cpp). [ThanX to IQ_132]

    * Added an extra key to Pause a running game, now you can use the 'P' key too.
    * Added directory creation code for IPS patches, if 'ips/' is not found it will be created.
    * Updated 'd_neogeo.cpp' to match MAME v122 [ThanX to KOF2112].

      Ex. sfa.png (main)      #1
           sfa-p02 (alternate) #2
           sfa-p03 (alternate) #3
           sfa-p04 (alternate) #4

thanks,CaptainCPS-X updated FB Alpha Enhanced R7

Why not in updated FB Alpha Extras R20?

I stopped the development of FB Alpha Extras on R20, but FB Alpha Enhanced will be like R20 and better in the future

btw, there is a probability that I make FBA Enhanced closed source for a time, because I dont have much time to be doing code packages. Anyway it will be easier for the users that want to use the new features or that doesn't have compiling experience to just get the binary and Play !

I bring some bad news and some good news about FBA Enhanced R8

For the ones that wanted IPS, I have to say bad news, I will disable IPS for the next release because of it's current state in my build, when IPSv3 is ported to FBA I will probably add it again. Good news are that I'm implementing the Favorite Gamelist feature imported from FBA Extras and as soon as I finish implementing it I will do the new release with some other surprises (if I get the enough time to add them :p, if not, then anyway I will keep updating FBA Enhanced with more stuff in the future).

New drivers made by IQ_132 are already added and the updates by BisonSAS (Gals Panic drivers too ), so ThanX guys!.

Merry Christmas!

R8 is coming very soon, I'm making sure the 'Favorite Gamelist' feature is working fine so that's why I will call this progress preliminary. It doesn't include the 'Play Counter' column (like in FBA Extras R20) because of an issue retrieving the info from the game configurations.

Here are some previews

Cool!!, I check Emulation9 every day but I was not expecting my build to be in their news, so its pretty cool! ^^

Ok, I dont know if you have the needed files but i will tell you what you need to 'add' to the makefile(s).

Search for this line:

Quote

alldir   = burn burn/capcom ...

Add  "burn/cps3" after "burn/capcom", it should be something like this:

Quote

alldir   = burn burn/capcom burn/cps3 ...

Now look for this line:

Quote

       d_cps2.o \
      \

Add this into the next line (i will not tell you to add other drivers included in the zip posted by Oopsware because they have to be edited to compile fine, so lets not have problems compiling for you)

Quote

            d_cps3.o \
      \

Now look for this lines:

Quote

      cps.o cps_draw.o cps_mem.o cps_obj.o cps_pal.o cps_run.o \
      cps2_crpt.o cps_rw.o cps_scr.o cpsr.o cpsrd.o \
      cpst.o ctv.o ps.o ps_m.o ps_z.o qs.o qs_c.o qs_z.o \
      kabuki.o \
      \

Add this into the next line:

Quote

      cps3run.o cps3snd.o sh2.o \
      \

Done! That should let you compile your build with CPS3! ^^, remember that the cps3 dir must be @ "src/burn/cps3"

PS: I edited you double post because it was the same thing, I just couldn't help you in that specific moment =).

I fixed the problem , ThanX for letting me know about it. (It will be included for R12)

And about the Sega System 1 driver, you should use the driver included in my last FBA Enhanced Source released located here:

just get the Sega System 1 source files and overwrite your current ones with those, because I did a little fix to a current bug in the released code by Treble Winner, you shouldn't have any problem when you do what I mentioned .

I will not explain that stuff to deep because if you look on the forums there is loot of examples to add a checkbox control and stuff, so well, apart from doing a checkbox and resizing the game selection dialog in 'app.rc' you need a definition of the CPS3 system in 'burn.h' (check the other definitions for reference) and in 'sel.cpp' you have to add the masking & the functions for the masking like the other systems.

Just take a time to look and study those files and you should be able to do it

And about your build, you should save time and use my build because afaik from what i see you are doing a compilation with the same stuff that is included in FB Alpha Enhanced.

FB Alpha Enhanced R12

This release is packed with the latest OopsWare update to the CPS3 driver + my own work too, there are lot of cleaning and organization in the internal code, I made the region DIPs work with all games including Red Earth using my patching code.

In this release to I included the newest addition,  'View Romset Information', I imported this feature from FBA Extras and did some tweaks to Enhance it ^^!, btw I edited my VC makefile for both 'speed' & 'optimization' of the FBA application so it should be more stable.

    * I Verified & Updated latest CPS3 driver with all CPS3 romsets, DIPs, CleanUp and the region patching code.
Now every game is playable and there are no guru meditations of any kind.

!* Added OopsWare latest update to the CPS-3 driver, it includes sound & more speed.
    * Added update made by IQ_132 to his 'Quiz Olympic' driver. [ThanX to IQ_132].
!* New Feature: "View Romset Information" - it will let you see all the selected driver roms, crc32, size and type of rom.
It display the romset name, total size in different ways (Bytes, KB & MB) and the number of files in the romset ^^.

I doubt it - the FBA license specifically states that source needs to be distributed. Binary only releases are not allowed. Given the thread on the mameworld forums and the fact that some MAME code is used in FBA then we need to be seen to enforce the license.

Oh, btw, well done to Oopsware for the work on CPS-3 and especially on the SH-2 hook-up. I might look at some SH-2 systems in future - will need to add support for multiple SH-2s first though. :)

As you say Treble, the source must be released and I was doing it until a specific release of this Enhanced version because my original UI code was being stealed for other builds 'that never released their source' (I don't want to be too specific on which builds are at this moment), but if the authors of FBA want my source , you'll have it any day you want, I got no problem at all with you .

Btw, I want to state something to be at peace with everyone, 'When I finish working on most of the enhancements i plan to add for future releases, I will release the source'

SeeYaa!

Unfortunately, that's par for the course. If you feel strongly about it then go after the builds that steal your stuff. But the idea of the license is that all code is public and people are free to use it as they wish - as long as they don't gain it from it commercially and they publically post their own improvements.

Again, unfortunately, but it isn't really an argument that you don't distribute source for fear of people using it - if everybody took that stance then MAME, FBA and similar wouldn't exist at all. Me, Kev, Jan and the others have plenty of code in there that we see people using without credit in their own builds - there isn't much you can do about it and as long as people post source and obey the license and keep the program alive.

I really love FBA and I want it to keep going further in the future. Sorry for not following the Licence agreement in some of my releases, I'm really sorry man.

I registered here just to say thank you to iq_132, OopsWare and CaptainCPS-X for making "CPS3 onto FBA" a reality. But I got a question:

How many more tests/builds of FBA will there be before it can be released as a final version?

If I'm breaking a rule for asking this, let me know. I'm too excited right now :D

ThanX all for everything ^^ and Welcome to NeoSource all new members  I hope you enjoy what we have around the forums.

About your question, I think you refer to an 'official' version, well, the official developers of FBA (currently the most active is Treble Winner 'Barry Harris')  make updates time by time, but currently he's not having the normal time he had to work on the official version. My build of FB Alpha Enhanced is not a 'official' release, I'm not part of the FBA Team, but it is based on the latest official release of it and I hope that when I release the latest source some of the features if not all can be ported to the official one .

Im very happy to see all this activity of users around I hope you can participate more frecuently and let us know what you like in the suggestions forum ^^

I have a suggestion:

Is it possible to add "Joystick Deadzone/Saturation" feature on FBA, similar to that in MAME 32++?

Even if FBA Enhanced build is not "official", it will be a non-sense not to add most of the features added in your Build :idiot:...Hope Treble Winner 'Barry Harris' (all my respect and support) is agree with me. Just now (when you're Ok and ready) have to release your SRC Cap'

Even when i do not use this specific build of FBA regularly, i just registered to tell you: that's both awesome and very mature, the way you took Treble Winner's opinion, and realized the thruth . That's the way an emulation community can really grow. My kudos to you, and your contribution to the scene, CaptainCPS-X. Thx for the build!

Joined this board, to tell you, that this FBA fork rocks!
I used to use the shuffle build, but really dislike the license disagreements.
Than I found out about your build and its great optimized, has a lot great features and CPS3 emulation! :)
But I found a problem: everytime I change the blitter to enhanced I get the "Guru Meditation 'C0000005.0053E9C1"
the log shows that

ThanX for the support ^^, and thanx for letting me know about that guru meditation problem, I'm having it to in my laptop too by some reason, check the following topic where I was doing some test in W.Vista when I started working again on FBA:

http://neo-source.com/index.php?topic=744.0

What I can say is that it seems that there is a problem with NVIDIA gfx cards + W.Vista, but I don't know if others are having the same problems since they haven't reported anything, just us :p. As I can see too the video is not initialized at all when this guru meditation occurs...

btw, you can optimize your audio output using '48000Hz' you should have no problems with your Sound Blaster Audigy

I'm looking forward to getting the this specific guru meditation error fixed so thanx for letting me know about the issue & Welcome to NeoSource ^^.

Am I allowed to ask some kind of a feature request?
You know, FBA has only a Buttons mapping for the game you a currently playing, but no global config, you can set.
It would be great to have a global button mapping and a per game button mapping, if a per game setting exists it's used instead of the global values, if it isn't the global  config is used.
Would be a great feature IMHO...
Btw: I've retested the bug with two newer driver version than the installed, but no luck... still getting the Problem... I wonder why, what's wrong.
Probably you can fix it!
And yeah, I'm already using the audio output of 48kHz! :)

FB Alpha Enhanced R13

Welcome to my newest release, with this one I start again the releases of FB alpha Enhanced including the Source code with all its features. This package has been verified and now it have a nice Documentation, Binaries & both latest official source and the Enhanced source.

Take a look at the new Readme right here:

-> readme_enhanced.txt (http://jezeronline.com/images/readme_enhanced.txt) ( Please Read )

Quote

R13 [January 5, 2008]:

    * Added cheat support for CPS-III. [ThanX to IQ_132].
    * Released Source again with lot of organization of files, please
take a time to check the package and the Documentation included.

    Note 1:
If you gonna compile the newest source you must 'delete' the old
'src/burn/capcom' dir from the official source before implementing
the FB Alpha Enhanced source. Overwriting the dir is not recommended
since it could cause errors and it would leave unused files in the
            directory.

    Note 2:
Some of the code of Enhanced features still need to be commented,
this will be done for version R14.

I will quote this from the Readme because it is very important:

Quote

License ::.
-----------

The license is the same as the official FB Alpha, so you must follow them
just as I follow them in both distribution of my binary and source.

Source ::.
----------

This is just a reminder to those of you using my source.  According to
FBA's license, you MUST release the source of your build if you release a binary.

Unicode Binary / VC2008 ( DirectX GFX 9 Blitter Capable) (Includes FBA Sources & Documentation ):

fba_enhanced_R13.7z (http://jezeronline.com/neosource/fba/fba_enhanced_R13.7z) [~3.06MB]

Please report any issues you have with both binary and source's.

Enjoy!

SeeYaa!

I think OopsWare will add the Test Screen accessible in some of his CPS3 updates, is just a matter of time =).

EDIT:  If I comment 'Service' (not the Diagnostic) then the regions appear in the DIPs (check the new attachment)

Wow, you are fast in releasing new stuff!
My problem with the blitter and the guru meditation is still there, btw.
Did you read my feature suggestion?
I'll quote myself:
Quote
You know, FBA has only a Buttons mapping for the game you a currently playing, but no global config, you can set.
It would be great to have a global button mapping and a per game button mapping, if a per game setting exists it's used instead of the global values, if it isn't the global  config is used.
Would be a great feature IMHO...
Btw: I've retested the nvidea bug with two newer driver version than the installed, but no luck... still getting the Problem... I wonder why, what's wrong.
Probably you can fix it!

Check this recent thread posted by 'Glitch', I helped him with some issues about the preset input configuration feature that FBA currently have, that btw, I plan to verify since is not that user-friendly...

Hello everyone,

Thanks CaptainCPS-x for this great FBA build, but...

Knowing that I have the full set of MAME roms (.122u3), I would like to know why in this picture I have a red icon on the set NeoGeo:

(http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3039/snkii3.th.jpg) (http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snkii3.jpg)
click for enlarge

In the CPS3 set I have "Red earth (no cd)" game red (and not you) although MAME doesn't propose this game actually.

Code: [Select]
// We don't have any actual warzard / red earth no cd bios sets, but keep this here anyway
GAME( 1996, redeartn,redearth, cps3, cps3, warzard,ROT0,   "Capcom", "Red Earth (961121, NO CD)", GAME_NOT_WORKING )

[..]

redearth_nocd.bios NOT FOUND (NO GOOD DUMP KNOWN)

(http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/7372/redpe9.th.jpg) (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=redpe9.jpg)
click for enlarge

I cannot launch any CPS3 game, I came across the following message:

(http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/7844/cps3gq0.th.jpg) (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cps3gq0.jpg) (http://pix.nofrag.com/4/3/5/30c3fe5787f0d4305d5c02806ebf0t.jpg) (http://pix.nofrag.com/4/3/5/30c3fe5787f0d4305d5c02806ebf0.html)
click for enlarge

Finally, there are two CPS1 sets not upgraded (not .122 series), there are "Three Wonders (World 910520) and "Final Fight (US)"

In the Game Selection dialog go to the options Tab and make sure you have selected 'Show Available only' :

if you don't have that selected it will show light red icons that indicates that you have the roms, if the icons are dark red it indicates that you don't have the roms for those games.

MAME actually doesn't propose it because they haven't dumped the 'Asia NCD' BIOS, is you look at the following post you will see how to get it and update your set:

You must have this configured (FastBoot - Will patch the system for NCD games / SpeedHacks - Will make the CPS3 system go at full speed (~60fps)):

R14 UI WIP-> Now it's not obligatory to use the Menus UI Themes, I added a option to disable the Themes completely and use the OS default UI ^^
R14 UI WIP-> Modified 'FastBoot' & 'SpeedHacks' notifications, now they will only appear if you're currently running a game and only if the game is a CPS-III game.

CaptainCPS-X: Do you know the 2xPM filter (http://2xpm.freeservers.com/) (present in Kega Fusion and MamePlus), It has better performance than HQ2X!!  Maybe..fba... ^^

I'm trying to fix the issue but it seems to be a little strange for me because it's using 'TCHAR' for the paths and that support unicode afaik, I will keep my research on this issue and I will  try to change my System language temporally  to Korean so I can verify the problem better.

PS: I will probably add you to MSN so you can test the build before releasing it, that way I can see if you still have the issue or if it's fixed.

I managed to fix it without all that ^^, I was doing my research and found out that there are other parameters that can me joined with the _tfopen() without changing 'rt' to 'rb' or 'wt' to 'wb' at all, its better because is compatible with every Unicode encoding, this way we dont have to convert binary data to string and stuff like that ^^

In other words, now (for R14) there should be no problem with directories because I'm following the 'Microsoft Developer' way  :p

here's a little problem with FBA that has plagued online play for some time regarding input delay
if you have time to aproach it and fix it in FBA Enhanced i (and a lot of online players) would be very grateful

Final Burn Alpha has 1 frame of input delay with sound enabled. with sound disabled it appears to have no input delay. however that is just a trick because the emulator skips 1 frame  masking that 1 frame of input delay.

standard Final Burn doesn't have that 1 frame of input delay regardless of sound being enabled or disabled, working as usual without frameskipping -> this can be measured by counting frames for an animation to make sure there's no frameskipping to mask input delay. for example Ryu's standing jump: it takes ~40 frames for Ryu to take off and land with no frameskipping (regardless of sound being enabled/disabled in Final Burn).

in FBA with sound disabled it takes ~20 frames for Ryu to take off and land => frameskipping.

what gives that 1 frame input delay in FBA and how it can be reverted to standard FB behavior (without frameskipping to mask input lag)?

how to test input delay easily:
enter Service -> Input menu
pause game, hold a button pressed (like low punch) and press F1 to advance through frames and notice when Shot value changes.

in standard FB hotkeys are: ALT+P (pause) and ALT+O (advance 1 frame).

PS: sorry if you find this post inadequate for this topic
PPS: did you manage to fix the sound quality for CPS3 games? that would make it perfect :D

One little suggestion: modify the "monitor properties" behaviour. It should have another option called Auto and that option should be the default one.

People with non 4:3 monitors are playing with incorrect aspect ratios without knowing it because of that and, as far as I know, WinKawaks and similar emulators don't do this.

Post by: CaptainCPS on January 09, 2008, 02:52:54 PM
I'm doing testing of a preliminary solution for the Monitor properties, now it have a Auto Check option. What this does is verify the current Resolutions of the screen and compare it with a extensive list of resolutions I made, it will know if the aspect is 16:10, 16:9, 5:4 or 4:3 and do the correct adjustments to FBA =).

If this doesn't work, there is no other way to do it (afaik for now).

Oh, and WinKawaks or similar emulators doesn't have the Auto Aspect adjustment for the monitors, it does have the same options in the menu to manually select a smaller aspect ratio or something like that, but not automatic.

So if my feature works fine, FBA will be the first in this category to do automatic Aspect ratio configuration depending on the resolution it's running =)

I have 2 suspicions on this:
1. the rom seems to read the buttons value port (Inp00x) quite late in the frame... I ran to about 300 frames and on all of those frames, the rom seemed to read the value around 1793xx of 197886 cycles. This could have something to do with the difference in fb and fba cps2 run.
2. Its something to do with the delay in displaying. I've checked the input value reads and they're perfect. (i.e. available for read before the frame...)

Anyways, have fun CCPS-X =)

You can configure that in the 'Misc' menu I don't see a problem in configuring that just one time (it's a search and click situation), why would I do that default, is there a serious issue with it?...just wondering  :p

ThanX anyway for the recommendation, it's just that i don't find it really that useful, or at least that you have a special need of it.

If i'm using this emu online, and Autoplay is enabled, the lag and desynching within the game will be very noticeable. I'm worry that many people who're using this emu online will forgot to turn off the feature.

CaptainCPS-X:

Great work on this emu the ONLY thing it is missing is the option to enable smart interframe blending like Kawaks 1.58.

Some people might ask WHAT IS INTERFRAME BLENDING?

Well to put it simply it is a method of blending sprites that flicker on normal displays rather then giving the effect of semi transparent sprite. On a normal Arcade monitor this is not a problem but on today's displays you will notice in Games on the NeoGeo, CPS, and so on that they have flickering sprites that do not look right at all but with the help of interframe blending this problem can be fixed.

Please CaptainCPS add this feature for FBA Enhanced as well, since It is the ONLY feature that makes Kawaks better in my eyes.

Thank you. ;p

the pause option does not affect netplay. If its desynchronizing, its due to something in the driver or dips sending options.

I agree to that. Interframe blending is a very nice feature. I am surprised that it is only in kawaks.
I think for neogeo games it is a must.

I have another feature request. Can you make a option, that fba enhanced can remember the last selectet game (like mame) and remember the last "preview tab" (snap, title, flyer) ?

Hi Captain,

- Can you add the 2xPM filter (http://2xpm.freeservers.com/) (very better performance than Hq2x and great aspect!!) ??

and

- option like "show available only" but for the missing roms: "Only missing" (like kawaks) ^^

Hi Captain,

Im learning DirectX these days so probably I will be able to add blitters very soon (depending on when I get to the point of enhancing the drawn image on the screen surfaces)

Quote from: pmc2

- option like "show available only" but for the missing roms: "Only missing" (like kawaks) ^^

I could work on something like that, it will require that I modify the romlist display code so when generating the list / refreshing, it would check if the only missing option is available it will do the inverse of "show available only"...so the option would be one or the other since I can't let two checkboxes for that, the 'show available only' and 'show missing only' would be like radio buttons.

Please don't.  IIRC the FBA devs hate this.  It's a license violation in MAME even.  If you want a
real ROM validation software, use romcenter or clrmamepro.

ThanX IQ_132, I didn't know that . I will not add that function then, because I want to be following the FBA license agreement and I respect MAME so that should do.

I hope you guys understand what I'm doing referring to license, I'm showing 'respect' for FBA and don't want to be doing a deformed build of it that represent the wrong image to the emulation community.

CaptainCPS-X, can you change the "Generate ClrMame Pro dat" function, that it write in the second line only the name of the emulator without the release number ?
(name "FB Alpha Enhanced"
instead of
name "FB Alpha Enhanced Rxx")

If the name in the dat is changed in every version, cmp don't use the old settings. If the name is the same, cmp use the old settings and only update the dat.
It is ok without the release in the name, because the release number appears in the cmp list by the description in the dat file.

I hope you understand what i mean, my english is not the best

The difference is that 'show available' doesn't list games that are missing roms. It isn't a
way of checking to see if your set is complete.

Well, I mentioned that I'm still learning DirectX so for now I cant add it for the upcoming R14, maybe in the future I could do that, It would be pretty cool to add that feature, but unfortunately for now I cant add it.

I will take this opportunity to let you all know that I have a list of finished WIP of "25" updates in FB Alpha Enhanced R14, so this next release will be packed with lot of new stuff ^^

Im dedicating to all of those ppl that have come here and gave support to my build of FBA. I hope you all like this upcoming release that incorporates almost everything that needed a look + my surprises

The only thing Im still to do is verify the new updated romsets in the latest MAME release to have FBA in sync with them. That is probably the last updates I gonna add for R14 before releasing it (finally xD).

Exactly there were 4 romsets that needed to be updated to be in sync with the latest official / stable release of MAME (v122 - Not including u1,u2, etc) but the updates had nothing new to be sync.

These were the updated romsets:

- dfeveron
- 3wonders
- ffightu
- wintbob

This means that there are "29" updates done to the upcoming R14 of FBA Enhanced lol  :p

R14 [ January 12, 2008 ]

:: UI UPDATES:

* Added VSync option to the Video menu, this option was always hidden on the config ini and this
could make the video look more smoother or accurate with the blitter you have selected
(this depends on the video card you have).

* Added Turbo mode to the Video menu, now you only have to press F1 one time to activate it, then
to deactivate it you click again and that's it =).

* Fixed lot of issues in the Game Selection window related to the context menus and the favorites,
I finally found a wrong way of using a loop and corrected it.

* FBA Enhanced will now remember the Game Selection window Tabs the way you left it, so
if you left the Flyers Tab selected and closed the dialog it will remember it, when you
go back to the Game Selection window the Flyers Tab will be selected. This feature work
with all Tabs in the game selection window, so now eveything is the way you want each time
  you open the window!.

* Fixed problems with the FB Alpha Enhanced title and the DAT generation, now I separated the
release number and the title so there should be no problem now with the rom managers.

* New Skin / Splash!.
* Added new feature!, Auto Adjust the monitor Aspect Ratio depending on your display.
* New feature! 'Select directories.Ini' file located anywhere on your PC.
* New Feature! 'Configure Directories...', now you can configure:

  - Cheats directory
  - Flyers directory
  - Previews directory
  - Title directory
  - Screenshots directory

... you can find the new feature in the 'Game' menu =), Enjoy!.

* ROMs Directories Paths & other directories now are saved into "config/directories.ini"
* Now there should be no problems with 'Unicode' directories paths configurations.
* Fixed problem with the ROMs Scanning dialog, now it will appear correctly all times.
* Added option to disable the Menus UI Themes.
* Imported 'Menu UI Theme Select' from FBA Extras.

:: DRIVERS UPDATES

* The following romset where updated to match the ones from MAME v0.122:

  - dfeveron
  - 3wonders
  - ffightu
  - wintbob

* Added latest update of 'Meijinsen' driver by BisonSAS [ThanX to BisonSAS].
* Added latest update of 'pgm_sound.cpp' to fix PGM sound (still have some issues) [ThanX to OopsWare].
* Added latest update of 'd_pgm.cpp' by BisonSAS [ThanX to BisonSAS].
* Updated Redeartn DIPs and changed default value to the correct region -> 'Asia NCD'
* Added various updates for the CPS3 driver sent by OopsWare. [ThanX to OopsWare]
* Added SaveState support and palette improvements for CPS-III [ThanX to OopsWare].
* Added fix by OopsWare that solves the palette issues and improved speed.[ThanX to OopsWare]

* Updated "d_cps3.cpp" & "cps3run.cpp" with BisonSAS's additions.
* Diagnostic Screen enabled in the CPS-III driver [ThanX to BisonSAS]
* Added new driver '4 En Raya' driver [ThanX to IQ_132]
* Added new driver 'Meijinsen' [ThanX to IQ_132]

I signed up just to congratulate you, CaptainCPS on what you've achieved. No doubt, this'll make a lot of people happy.

Everything seems to be fine so far, except for two things: I can't get the correct aspect ratio for sfiii. I've fiddled with monitor properties and the closest i can get to 4:3 is to set it on 16:9 - I have a 16:10 monitor running at 1680 x 1050 resolution.

Also, in fullscreen mode, there are black horizontal bars on both the top and bottom. I've set the fullscreen resolution to 4:3 (1280x960) with my monitor's control aspect ratio function on.

Cheers

ThanX for the comments ^^

I got the same monitor here, and to fix your issue in full screen you must set it to that same resolution, don't use the default resolutions because they are 4:3 afaik, you can select your current monitor resolutions by selecting "Other..." in the Full screen resolution menu item.

(Check the attachments to know where to locate the correct Full screen resolution to use)

for CPS3 I recommend you "1400 x 1050" and for others "1680 x 1050"

Notice a bug when want to take a snapshot (F12) (see picture)... I've wanted to make a previews & titles pack for R14 version but not possible. Also Shift+F12 (for Titles) works :p

Hi Cap'

Notice a bug when want to take a snapshot (F12) (see picture)... I've wanted to make a previews & titles pack for R14 version but not possible. Also Shift+F12 (for Titles) works :p

I've tested for few games to take snaps but always same errors (notice that this bug is not in previous version )

I'll check that asap , ThanX for the notice

SeeYaa!

hmm weird that resolution doesn't appear on my list. I think the problem lies in the inability to display a correct aspect ratio in window mode. I've tested other games such as sf alpha 2 and it's able to display the correct ratio.

awesome work, CaptainCPS-X! many thanks for a dream come true (Street Fighter3 in a lightweight, yet solid all-around emulator)!

a little possible issue i noticed: adjusting CPU speed to 50% or 200% makes no difference in the speed of the game.

Hi Captain, I've registered just to post my thanks. As Aqua said, it really is superb to have an emulator like this (for online gaming enthusiasts especially) so thank you very much indeed for your time and your efforts.

I have a few requests, if I may be so bold ^^

Would it be possible to set the dip switches for sfiii3n and sfiii3an to English, by default? It's just that when playing online, everyone is perpetually stuck in the Japanese language mode, which makes things a little trickier when choosing move sets.

Secondly, I don't know if you are aware of this, but in the Street Fighter III 3rd Strike games, in the diagnostic settings, the sound is set to Mono by default. It is listed as "Jamma" (which is its equivalent), under Configuration > System > Sound Mode. The reason for this as I understand it, is because the old arcade cabinets that SFIII were built on were not configured for stereo output. In this day and age however, every PC and television is equipped and configured with a stereo output system, so the result is degraded sound quality when playing these games, unless that setting is changed. Would it be possible to set the sound mode to "External" by default, so we can all enjoy the game in stereo without having to change this diagnostic setting everytime we load the game? Most players when playing online for example, usually play in the lower quality mono sound mode, because they are not aware of this particular diagnostic option. You can test the difference for yourself if you plug in a set of headphones, you can hear the beats of the music dynamically bouncing between each earphone appropriately. I'm not sure if all CPS3 games are set to Jamma by default, or if it's just 3rd strike, so this might be worth checking.

Thirdly, regarding the problem wiki was having where he couldn't get rid of the black bars on the bottom and top of the screen. I had the same problem. I'm using a 4:3 monitor. To fix it, I set the following option: Video > Stretch > Full Stretch. Then I could enjoy 3rd Strike in full screen, without the black bars. I think that perhaps "Full Stretch" should be a default setting so that other users don't encounter this issue.

Many thanks for your time and efforts once again :)

I think I found a bug in R14:

An opponent and myself were playing online, we were amazed by how well this emulator flows.. Anyway, I opened the chat (by pressing "T"), and for some unknown reason, the "P" key isn't working, and therefore, letter "P" won't show up in my chat. I checked the game inputs, and there's no option for the "P" key. I bet there are couple more keys that aren't working in the "Chat" feature...............

Great release but jojon and shinobl are not .122u5 (or .122) compatible ;)

AND

do you have a workspace / solution / project for visual studio 2005 or 2008 ??

Thanks captain  ;p

Whilst this would solve the problem for 4:3 monitors, the image would still be stretched for widescreen monitors unless they have aspect ratio control. The easiest way to fix this problem for everyone would be to simply fix the 'correct aspect ratio' function of the emulator.

I just use the command line to compile, and edit the .cpp's with Visual Studio / Visual C++ 2008 Express , ...btw, I got the full MAME set v0.122 and all romsets are fine, maybe you have done some manual changes to the sets and that's why it not finding your romsets. Until there is a official MAME v0.123 release I will not modify romsets since they can change any time in those u1, u2, etc, updates and its not good.

I just tested all Jojo's drivers (excluding the CHD ones because CDROM si not emulated) and they are working fine. I really dont know why the game freezes for you.

Notice to all:

Please when using R14 make a clean directory and put the new files there, do not use old configurations since this could cause problems, use a clean install.

The following things has been updated for R15:

Quote

R15

* Fixed little error when saving screenshots.
* Updated a bit the Auto Monitor Aspect ratio configuration, I verified some resolutions aspects
  and did the neccessary adjustments.
* Modified the alternative Pause key 'P' now it will check if you're netplaying to do it's function
  correctly.

Let me update my findings on R14:

a) I tested all the keyboard keys for the chat feature. All alphabets and values show up ok, except the "P" key.

b) When somebody is typing something on the chat during a game, the game will stutter/frameskip for a few moment. When the typing stop, the game will run at a normal pace. This happens when either one of us open a "chat".

c) FBA still can't remember my customized control setup after I played online :/  The control settings was reverted back to default

CaptainCPS-X, you have done a fantastic work. I love your build.
But i have some suggestions

1. The roms dat (cmp)
It is ok, that the Release Number is removed from the name entry, now cmp can use the right setings. But can you add the release number again in the description entry, so it's possible to see in the cmp list ? And can you add the release number in the file name of the roms dat ?

2. I missing the possibility, that FBA Enhanced remember the last selected game ? Is it not implemented yet or i didn't found the switch ?
Will this feature be added ?

3. Possible a bug. If i set custom directories and i start FBA Exp. again it create the folders in the fba dir, but that's not needed.

4. One thing that nervs me. FBA Exp. starts always in a big window. When i reduce the size and no game is loaded and i do a setting in the menu, the window jump's again back in full size.
- *edit* I have found the nWindowSize switch in the ini  . But if it is set, the window size go back to the small size after i made the window bigger and have done a setting in the menu. If the switch is not set, the window size go back to full size after i reduced the window size and have done a setting in the menu. I think it's not required, that the window size changes itself after a setting or action is done.

5. Can you seperate the Video/Stretch settings vor horizontal and vertical games. In the most time i want a full stretch for horizontal games but a correct aspect ratio for vertical games.

6. Is it possible to add the resolution sizes from the fullscreen to the window settings to ?

7. A wish for future releases, can you add tabs for control panel, cabinet and control panel ?
I don't want, that fba will be a mame clone, but the control panels are sometime usefull by setting up the controls.

That's my list, i know it's long.
