My Great Files Compression errors...

Well, i have a problem in my new PC with compressed files, and I did
a lot of things to try to fix it but it seems that nothing (for the moment)
will fix my problem....
Every Zip/Rar/Etc. that i create, for Example 'Mslug5'
(the one im fighting to create) it compress Bad CRC file(s)...
or sometimes Broke the compressed file(s) I really dont know why this is
happening in this PC...I tested with different Files Managers , like WinZIP,
WinRAR, WinACE, 7Zip & the one Im using now is PowerArchiver 2004,
...oh! and the fun is that in my old slow PC this never happened for more Big
that the compressed file was...and here in my Great PC it corrupt even a
20mb compressed file(s)... :(

About my PC Specs...
That Tip about my Memory have me thinking because, look at this info...

This sounds more like a virus to me. I have almost exactly the same specs (actually everything nearly matches except the hdd :))
One of the things I would suggest is using something newer than windows 98 (windows 2000 doesn't have much higher requirements) and switching to an NTFS file system (FAT32 is known to be unreliable).
btw, nice to see some non-emu related stuff going on here :)

I had the same prob some years ago, and it was my "noname" memory module (512Mb).
On my comp', I was unable to compress files correctly, decompression of zipped and rared files were corrupted (not everytime.......it was very "funny", tried to decompress a file > gave me CRC errors, tried two minutes later, decompression was OK, and two minutes later again, bad CRC :D )
Did you try to "benchmark" your memory with memtest86 ????
This soft is really helpful, the boot CD version is really good
ps : i tried the memory module on my bro' comp' and it was working a little better than mine, but there was errors too (less than mine)
ps bis : I put that sh** in the trash bin, bought a 512Mb Corsair module (non ECC) and everything works fine now.....
ps....3 :D : ECC memory is not needed if you choose the good manufacturer (Samsung, Corsair, etc...) :cool:
ECC memory is needed if you want to build a server, but for a "normal" computer, it's useless and expensive

Ummm, not a virus...I did a HDrive Backup in ~5-6 DVDs and reinstalled Win98
then i passed the most important apps and some files, but i downloaded
everything again (still dowloading some things) and I think it could be my
memmory module because i bought it without consulting nothing about that
memory, i needed a DDR Mem and that was the first choise (thinking that all
mems where the same U_U) but well now I have some $, lets see if i can
spend some money for the next week and buy a new DDR Mem.
Oh! btw...is there DDR Mems by SONY?...if exists that will be my choice xD
Nah! just jocking...:D I can take a Samsung one ^^ :P

Well is helpfull to know other Mem Issues because now Im not the only one
with this Compressing prob....the only thing is that you fixed it xD
but umm, well, i downloaded the 'memt32' and i will do a BootCD to test
it later..(ThanX ;))...
Oh!...xD...Im downloading WindowsXP ISO (+ Serial of course xD) and when
it finishes, i think in two days, with my 56k Modem ¬¬u ...i will post
what happned in the new system with the 'Great Compressed' files ^^

It's a problem involving win98 & 95. It's has many problems with "big" RAM modules, as refered in this link:

It says that the problem only happens with mem > 512, but that's not exactly true. I had the same problem time ago with 512 MB and even with less RAM ;)
Suggestion: As you said, upgrade to win2k, or XP Pro
