Best way to play racing games in FBA?

(1/3) > >>

dink:
Hi,
It seems like classic racing games, such as Outrun, Power Drift, Dual Axle and such need an analogue input to control the steering.  When I map the steering to the thumbstick on my gamepad (Dualshock3 w/the Scarlet.Crush driver), the car always goes back to the center of the road when you let off the stick.  It just doesn't seem like a nice way to enjoy these old classics..

How do you guys have the inputs mapped?  Please post any tips for better enjoyment of the games.

best regards,

If you remember the home computer versions of Outrun on the C64 or Sega Mastersystem, or Mario Kart on SNES, they played just fine with digital inputs aka 1 button to go left, one button to go right.  Do you think that an option added to FB Alpha to emulate the steering digitally, like the home versions, would be nice?

Barry Harris:
They work well digitally.

Analogue - I'm not 100% sure about - but FBA does support setting center/auto-center etc.

It is something you may need to set in the game's ini though - I can't remember. The input dialog code in burner would probably give more info.

Treble Winner, I can't quite figure it out, for example - in the game Double Axle there is an input called Steering, but you need 1 button for L and one for R.

The driving games in FBA handle fine with an X360 pad IMO.

After Burner is very, very broken and unresponsive with a 360 pad though. Seriously, the turning is sluggish and the throttle control does not work so it is impossible to barrel-roll, brake or even switch the afterburners on!

I had to re-install MAME just to play it properly in the end.
