The pics come from the games' internal video format (makes sense to me..?), which of course is 1:1, but, in the UI we aspect-correct them before display.

Hmmm ok, i thought the UI didn't correct aspect after noticing some dual-screen 8:3 games had a thumbnail of 1 screen only (ex.: scross).
Now i'm wondering why the UI ends up applying a 4:3 for those thumbnails instead of the 8:3 from the driver, i'll have to look at the code sometime.
